Gas membrane installation is a specialist activity and demands that the workforce have the skills and knowledge to install to agreed standards. The Specialist Upskilling Programme will provide a mechanism for this and protect occupants from the dangers associated with ground gases that are harmful to health.
CITB-ConstructionSkills has also made grants available to in-scope companies to further support delivery and encourage take up of the Specialist Upskilling Programme.
The National Specialist Team at CITB-ConstructionSkills are pleased to have been able to support the British Geomembrane Association in developing a Specialist Upskilling Programme for Gas Membrane Installation. It is hoped that this new programme developed and approved by industry experts will help in the drive to have a fully qualified work force and enable employees in the sector to achieve the appropriate NVQ and subsequent CSCS card to recognise their skills and knowledge.
SUP Programme, including 5 day course and NVQ assessment (completed in less than 12 months).
The modules focus on the use and application of underpinning knowledge along with practical skills and will enhance the awareness of safety, and approved procedures to carry out the installation of Gas Membranes.
The modules are based on the NVQ Structure to assist with gaining recognition for any future changes in the NVQ or Legislation will be reflected by modifications to the course structure.
Modules have been developed to introduce the candidate to the occupational competencies required for the installation of the Gas Membranes and systems used within the industry. The training will be delivered using a combination of ‘off site’ and on-site training.
The “Off Site” element will mix theoretical and practical training in the class room and appropriately modified training workshops.
The “Onsite” will utilise an experienced worker to train the learner via live site instruction for a prescribed number of notional hours agreed by industry as meeting the level of occupational activity required to achieve occupational competence in the various occupational tasks set out in the NVQ/ SVQ.
